Installing Windows Media Player Components for Mac
Sometimes you hit a website that needs some kind of Windows Media Player installed, but since you own a Mac now, you don’t have WMP. Microsoft has developed Windows Media Player for Mac, but they discontinued support after version 9. In my humble opinion, it is easier to download and install Flip4Mac which takes care of Windows Media Player compatibility in a Mac by adding a plugin to QuickTime.
To download Flip4Mac, click here.
This will download a DMG file. If you are downloading in Safari then this file will automatically open afterwards. A window will pop up with a mpkg file. If you are downloading with Firefox, go to the download window, right click the DMG file that was downloaded and select open. Once the DMG is opened and mounted, a finder window will pop open. Double click to start the install. This window will pop up:

You can continue through that. The install opens after clicking continue. You can continue through the next few pages.

When you get to this screen:

Click on your drive towards the top and click continue. You will need to put your password in for the Mac to install this component. When the installation is finished, you may come to a page titled upgrade. Just click continue. This is all free and you do not need to buy anything. The install should have been successful, in which case go to a site that requires Windows Media Player and try to access the video. You may need to restart your web browser.
