How to Find your Mac OS Version

In the very upper left corner of your screen you will see an Apple menu. Click this and select “About This Mac”. A box will pop up much like this one:

About This Mac

Right below, “Mac OS X” and right above the “Software Update…” button you will see the “Version”. For Tiger, the latest is 10.4.11 and for Leopard as of right now, the latest is 10.5.7. This screen will aslo tell you how much ram you have next to “Memory” and whether or not you are using an Intel processor next to “Processor”. The “Startup Disk” section towards the bottom corresponds to the name of your hard drive on your desktop. Most Macs come with a drive labeled Macintosh HD, so your Mac may say something to that nature next to “Startup Disk”. If you click on the Version number a couple of times you can also find your serial number. This makes it easy to get to your serial number rather than having to flip the computer over and take out the battery. Apple is so smart!
